The Bow
Marcel Lapierre made this viola bow in 1955. By then, he had more than thirty years of bow making behind him. As a result, the bow comes from his mature years.
This Marcel Lapierre viola bow from 1955 reflects that long career. In particular, he worked in several key Mirecourt shops. Those include Lotte, Louis Bazin, and Morizot Freres.
For a violist, that range of training adds appeal. A 1955 viola bow by Marcel Lapierre carries the Mirecourt tradition. Also, it comes from a maker who knew many workshops firsthand.
The Maker
Marcel Lapierre lived from 1907 to 1979 and died in Mirecourt, France. First, he apprenticed with J. Thibouville-Lamy from 1921 to 1923.
After that, he worked for Brouillier and Lotte around 1926. Then he worked for F. Lotte from 1931 to 1936. Later, Louis Bazin and Morizot Freres employed him. Briefly, he also worked for E. A. Ouchard in 1946.
