Garrett Benning was born and raised around Benning Violins and discovered his love for the cello at the age of four. Throughout his childhood, he played with various youth symphonies and began performing professionally at the age of sixteen.
After high school, Garrett felt a strong call to serve his country and pursued his education at the United States Naval Academy. Despite a demanding naval career, he remained deeply connected to music, performing with the US Naval Academy Orchestra. During the past couple of years, Garrett also expanded his musical talents by learning to play both the piano and violin.
Following nearly a decade of dedicated Navy service, Garrett made the decision to fully reconnect with his musical heritage and returned to Benning Violins. Leveraging his diverse experiences in both service and music, Garrett is committed to supporting both aspiring musicians and seasoned professionals in achieving their musical aspirations.
In addition to his role at Benning Violins, Garrett enjoys hiking with his wife Kaigan and dog Scout, reading history books, particularly early US history and 20th-century European history, and learning new musical instruments. He resides in the San Fernando Valley with his wife, where they are actively involved in their community and continue to foster a love for music and service.
Garrett’s passion for music and dedication to excellence continue to inspire those around him, making him a cherished member of the Benning Violins family.
“I am honored to be part of a family legacy that has, for generations, been synonymous with quality and excellence in the world of string instruments,” says Garrett. “It’s a privilege to continue this tradition and to support musicians in their artistic journeys.”
