The Violin

Wenzel Fuchs made this violin in the early twentieth century. It remains in excellent condition today and has a back length of 35.6 cm. Fuchs chose the finest tone woods for this instrument, using moderately grained spruce for the top and deeply flamed maple for the back. The violin offers beautiful soloistic tonal qualities, finished with a refined and gorgeous oil varnish.

The Maker

Wenzel Fuchs came from a long line of violin makers based in the Czech village of Schönbach. Following the Second World War, he was among the German luthiers forced out of Czechoslovakia, and he ultimately settled in the Franconian region of Germany. There, he continued the meticulous craftsmanship passed down through his family’s tradition.

Fuchs’s extensive experience shows clearly in the details of his instruments, and his violins remain in international demand today, particularly in the United States. This example reflects that same master level craftsmanship, from the careful wood selection to the refined finishing work.
