The Violin
Alceste Bulfari made this violin in 1993. The instrument offers a big tone that is both warm and powerful, characteristic of Bulfari’s modern Italian craftsmanship.
The Maker
Alceste Bulfari has worked as a professional violin maker for 35 years. He studied at the International Violin Making School in Cremona, Italy, and later returned to teach there. In 1979, he resigned from his teaching position and established his own workshop inside a former Franciscan convent.
Since then, Bulfari has worked independently, crafting violins, violas, and cellos. His primary interest lies in the investigation of acoustics and varnish, a focus that has shaped the distinctive tonal character of his instruments. As a result, his work reflects both scientific curiosity and deep craftsmanship, placing him among the notable modern Italian makers of his generation.
