The Maker
Alfio Batelli was born in Chianciano, Italy in 1903. Before establishing his own business in Florence, Italy, he studied violin making under V. de Zorzi. In 1947, Batelli immigrated to the United States, where he became one of the chief repairmen in the country.
Until his passing in 1975, Batelli successfully crafted over 300 instruments. Today, his instruments are recognized for having been built with a tedious hand and a meticulous eye, a reputation reflected clearly in the craftsmanship of this cello.
