The Violin Bow
A beautiful violin bow by this celebrated modern maker, featuring a round, red-brown pernambuco stick of elegant proportions. The ebony frog is fitted with mother-of-pearl eyes and slide, along with a sterling silver-mounted ferrule and underslide. An imitation ivory and ebony faceplate liner adds a refined decorative touch. The bow is finished with sterling silver lapping and a supple goat-skin leather thumb wrap for a comfortable feel. The ebony adjuster is fitted with two silver rings and a mother-of-pearl end dot. Perfectly weighted and balanced, it plays with a smooth, articulate response and remains in excellent condition.
The Maker
Alysio de Mattos is a Brazilian bowmaker and accomplished string player trained in both violin and viola who honed his craft in Paris under master bowmakers Christian Barthe and Richard Salaün in 2006. Since then, he has specialized in handcrafting bows in the traditional French style and is widely recognized as one of Brazil’s preeminent contemporary bowmakers. His pieces are sought after by professional musicians around the world.
