The Violin
Eric Benning made this violin in 2015, modeled after a recently discovered Carlo Bergonzi violin. The instrument features a Strad like outline paired with a darker, more powerful tone than most Stradivari models, along with a depth and power reminiscent of Guarneri. It has a beautiful one piece Bosnian maple back from the late 1920s and a Bavarian spruce top from 1922. The violin has a back length of 35.6 cm.
The Maker
Eric Benning continues the craftsmanship tradition at Benning Violins, building instruments that draw on deep study of historic Italian models. This violin reflects that approach directly, combining a Bergonzi inspired design with carefully sourced, aged tonewoods to achieve a rich, powerful voice suited to a discerning soloist.
Benning’s instruments remain highly regarded for their craftsmanship and tonal depth, carrying forward a legacy of fine violin making within the Benning Violins workshop.
