The Violin Bow

An exceptional example of Benoit Rolland’s work, this bow combines beautifully selected materials with outstanding playing qualities. The round stick is crafted from choice Pernambuco and fitted with an ebony and ivory-like faceplate. The ebony frog is mounted in sterling silver with Parisian eyes, while the ebony adjuster features two silver rings, decorative silver pins in each facet, and a pearl end dot.

The bow plays extremely well. Perfectly balanced and effortless in the hand, it offers excellent control, easy articulation, and a refined, responsive feel throughout the stick. It remains in excellent condition.

The Maker

Benoit Rolland is one of the most highly regarded contemporary French bow makers. Born in Paris in 1954, he trained in bow making at Mirecourt before establishing his own workshop and developing an international reputation among professional musicians and collectors. His bows are admired for their precision, balance, responsiveness, and sophisticated tonal qualities. Rolland has also been an important innovator in bow design, combining a deep respect for the traditional French school with a continual interest in acoustics, materials, and the mechanics of the bow.

This bow has found its new home.
