Father-and-son instruments from this period catch a specific moment. The Becker tradition was passing to a new generation, and both hands were still on the bench together.
For a player who wants the classic Becker sound, this Carl Becker violin 1941 delivers it: power, brightness and projection, with the careful workmanship the family is known for. Also, its excellent condition means it is ready for many more years of performance.
The Maker
Carl G. Becker was born in 1887, the son of a celebrated violin teacher and the grandson of the maker Herman Macklett. He finished his first violin at fourteen, and he began working with Lyon and Healy in 1902. In 1924 he joined William Lewis and Son in Chicago as their leading connoisseur, maker and restorer.
His son Carl F. Becker joined him at Lewis in 1937. Then, in 1968, the two formed Carl Becker and Son. Carl Sr. kept repairing and making instruments into his late nineties, and he founded a dynasty of conscientious makers and restorers.
So the Becker name stands among the most respected in American violin making. Because two generations worked on it, this Carl Becker violin 1941 carries both their skills in one instrument.
