The Violin
This Carletti violin is a fine Stradivari-model instrument, made in 1920 by the father-and-son team of Carlo and Orfeo Carletti. The wood is select, and it recalls the Soffritti tradition. The workmanship throughout is superior.
The instrument remains in excellent condition, and it produces the rich, clear and vibrant tone professional violinists look for. This Carletti violin has a back length of 35.5 cm.
Carletti instruments offer genuine Italian pedigree from a respected family workshop. Because this one carries a certificate as well, it made a strong long-term instrument for a serious musician.
The voice is warm and singing, and it projects. So it suits a professional who wants a proven modern Italian violin rather than a gamble. Also, instruments like this hold their value well, which makes a Carletti violin in this condition a secure choice.
The Maker
Carlo Carletti lived from 1873 to 1941, and his son Orfeo from 1906 to 1940. Both worked in Pieve di Cento, near Bologna. Carlo trained with Raffaele Fiorini, and he built a style that blended traditional Italian elements with his own approach. Orfeo learned that method and refined it.
Their workshop became known for deep red-brown varnish, precise workmanship and a warm, singing tone with remarkable projection.
Because Orfeo died young, instruments from the father-and-son partnership form a limited group. That scarcity adds to the appeal of every Carletti violin from these years, and it explains why collectors follow them closely.
Certification
Chris Reuning of Reuning and Son, Boston, a leading authority on fine Italian instruments, certified this violin.
