The Violin

David Wiebe made this violin in 2000, and it remains in pristine condition. It is a fantastic instrument from a maker known for his deep knowledge of fine woods and finishing.

The tone is very powerful and dark. This David Wiebe violin has the depth and strength to carry in any setting. The back measures 35.5 cm.

A powerful, dark voice is one of the most sought-after qualities in a modern violin. This David Wiebe violin has it in full measure. Because owners kept it carefully from new, it delivers that voice without the wear an older instrument brings.

So for a player who wants a modern American instrument with a deep, commanding sound, this David Wiebe violin was an excellent choice. First, it arrives ready to play, with no work needed. Second, it should keep opening up with years of use. It stands as a fine example of the modern American school.

The Maker

David Wiebe grew up in Beatrice, Nebraska, in a musical family that owned a lumberyard. That sparked his early interest in fine woods and finishing. He began playing bass in high school, then started experimenting with repairs, and the work took hold.

He studied violin making at the Staatliche Fachschule fur Geigenbau in Mittenwald, Germany. Later he turned his focus to making rather than repair.

He has taught many times at the Oberlin Violinmaking Workshop. Today he works from his home and workshop in Woodstock, New York. So a David Wiebe violin reflects both that craftsmanship and his standing among American makers.
