The Violin
Dimitri Atanassov made this violin in 2015, and it remains in excellent condition. He played at concert level before he turned to the workbench, and that experience shows in how the instrument handles.
The tone is even and dark across all four strings. This Dimitri Atanassov violin has a back length of 35.5 cm.
Because he builds from a player’s point of view, his instruments are known for comfort and easy response as much as for sound. A Dimitri Atanassov violin is made to be played, not admired from a case. That combination makes them a strong choice for emerging professionals.
This Dimitri Atanassov violin suits a student moving up to a professional instrument, and it suits a working player who wants an even, comfortable violin just as well. The dark tone gives it real depth. Also, its excellent condition means it is ready for daily use right away.
The Maker
Dimitri Atanassov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1970, and he began playing violin at six. He worked his way up to concert-quality performance. Then, in 2002, the maker Ian Sweetman inspired him to take up making himself.
His instruments quickly became popular for their sound, their playability and their affordability for emerging artists. He exhibited at the Ole Bull exhibition in Oslo in 2010 and at the Shanghai Music Expo in 2012, and he placed fifth and sixth at the Pisogne international competition in 2011. He also attended restoration master classes with Jean-Jacques Fasnacht.
In 2013 he opened his workshop in Cremona. So a Dimitri Atanassov violin brings a player’s insight together with fine Cremonese craft.
