The sterling silver-mounted frog is a testament to Ouchard’s refined aesthetic, with ebony and mother-of-pearl details executed to perfection. Dating from his early career, this bow captures the emerging brilliance of a French master at his craft. Professional violinists will appreciate its responsive handling and pure, focused sound production. This bow is in excellent condition. Inquiries from serious collectors and performers are welcomed.

The Maker

Emile-Auguste Ouchard (1900–1969), son of master bow maker Emile François Ouchard, refined his craft alongside his father at the Mirecourt firm Cuniot-Hury. He opened his own Paris workshop in 1938 and entered a golden period from 1940 to 1960, producing bows noted for their strong heads, balance, and refined workmanship. His career later took him to New York and Chicago, where he worked with William Lewis & Son. Ouchard’s bows remain prized by musicians and collectors for their strength, responsiveness, and tonal clarity.
