The Cello

This cello represents a thoughtful interpretation of the great Goffriller tradition, drawing on the most inspiring elements of eight historic models. Slightly larger than a B-model Stradivari yet more refined in proportion than a Montagnana, it offers a dark, rich, and powerful voice with a deep, focused core and outstanding projection. The one-piece back is crafted from Bosnian maple that has been in our family for generations, paired with quarter-cut maple ribs and scroll. Its Northern-Italian spruce top features striking hazel-spruce figure. Expertly antiqued, the cello pays homage to the past while embracing a character all its own.

The Maker

Eric Benning is a master violinmaker whose passion began at age 11 under his violinmaking parents. A third-generation luthier trained by acclaimed American maker Carl F. Becker Jr., he crafts instruments that captivate violinists worldwide. Each violin reflects the timeless traditions of the Italian masters while incorporating his own modern approach to tonal excellence. Sought after by teachers, soloists, and orchestra members, including several from the LA Philharmonic, Benning has handcrafted over 145 instruments, and his dedication to superior craftsmanship continues to shape the future of violin making.
