The Violin
Made in 2002, this beautiful violin is a carefully crafted copy of the renowned “Charles Reade” Guadagnini violin, offering a blend of comfort, elegance, and tonal clarity. The petite proportions of this spectacular instrument make it especially well suited for a smaller violinist who desires easy playability without sacrificing projection.
The two-piece Bosnian maple back features medium flames rising subtly from the center joint, complemented by wider-flamed ribs and scroll. A two-piece Bavarian spruce top with straight, even grain adds to the instrument’s charm. Finished in a rich red-brown varnish over a golden ground, it now shows natural, graceful wear from years of devoted use. As with all violins crafted by this maker, the violin possesses a rich, warm, distinctive voice that produces lush and brilliant colors throughout its tonal register.
The Maker
Eric Benning is a master violinmaker whose passion began at age 11 under his violinmaking parents. A third-generation luthier trained by acclaimed American maker Carl F. Becker Jr., he crafts instruments that captivate violinists worldwide. Each violin reflects the timeless traditions of the Italian masters while incorporating his own modern approach to tonal excellence. Sought after by teachers, soloists, and orchestra members, including several from the LA Philharmonic, Benning has handcrafted over 145 instruments, and his dedication to superior craftsmanship continues to shape the future of violin making.
