The Violin

In 1927, twenty five years after its founding, the Ernst Heinrich Roth firm completed this violin. It remains in excellent condition today. The back measures 35.8 cm.

The tone is bright and powerful across the strings. So the violin keeps its energy from the low G to the high E. That evenness helps a player move through positions with confidence.

By the late 1920s, the Roth workshop had refined its methods over two and a half decades. As a result, a 1927 violin by Ernst Heinrich Roth reflects a mature firm at full stride. It also shows how well that work holds up nearly a century later.

For a player, this Roth violin from 1927 combines brightness with real power. It suits a student who needs to project in recitals. In addition, its excellent condition makes it ready for daily work. That is why an Ernst Heinrich Roth violin from 1927 rewards a player who wants presence.

The Maker

Markneukirchen, in Germany, was home to many violin workshops. However, the firm of Ernst Heinrich Roth stood among the most prolific of them. It produced an enormous number of consistently high quality instruments in the 20th century.

Roth came to the trade naturally as the son of a violin maker. Then, in 1902, he started his own firm. Its catalog grew to at least 14 models, many drawn from Stradivari and Guarneri.

Volume did not mean shortcuts. Indeed, the firm’s literature maintained that Roth supervised and finished every instrument to leave the shop. Today, an Ernst Heinrich Roth violin like this 1927 example still earns trust for that consistency.
