The Violin

Fabio Volta made this violin around 2000, by then an award winning Italian maker. It has a stunning two piece flamed maple back. The varnish is a gorgeous deep red.

The tone matches the looks. Its voice is strong and brilliant, so it carries well in a practice room or a hall. Also, that brilliance helps a young player hear every note clearly.

By 2000, Volta had worked for well over a decade since his graduation. As a result, this Fabio Volta violin reflects a maker with solid training and real experience. It also comes from a modern Italian tradition that still draws players.

For an aspiring player, this violin from Fabio Volta makes an excellent choice. Its strong voice rewards effort. In addition, its flamed maple and red varnish give it striking visual appeal. That is why a Fabio Volta violin suits a student ready for a fine modern Italian instrument.

The Maker

Fabio Volta is a native of Cremona, Italy, and came into the world there in 1967. Some say he was destined to make instruments. In the early 1980s he enrolled at the Antonio Stradivari violin making school in Cremona.

He graduated in 1986. While there, he studied under leading modern Italian makers. They included Massimo Negroni, Riccardo Bergonzi, Lorenzo Marchi, Primo Pistoni and Pierangelo Balzarini.

Volta later built a prolific career. He won second place at the International Triennial in Cremona. Then he took third place at the Mittenwald Violin Maker’s Festival. Both results came from major international events for violin makers, one of them in his home city.
