The Bow
François Lotte made this violin bow. Lotte’s bows are known for their elegance, precision, and excellence in workmanship, and this particular example stands as a remarkable representation of his work. It weighs 58 grams.
The Maker
François Lotte was born to Georges Lotte, a luthier and violin maker in the Vuillaume shop. François received his training in the best French tradition, initially apprenticing with Bazin. In 1919, he married Marguerite Ouchard, daughter of Émile François Ouchard and sister of Émile Auguste Ouchard.
Lotte later went on to work for Eugène Cuniot-Hury between 1922 and 1925. By 1926, he had set up his own business in Paris. His deep roots in the French bow making tradition, combined with his marriage into the celebrated Ouchard family, placed him firmly within one of the most respected lineages in the craft.
