The Maker
François Peccatte (1821-1855) was a master French bow maker whose craftsmanship was deeply influenced by his brother Dominique Peccatte’s distinctive style. Born into a family of remarkable bow makers, François learned his craft near Mirecourt, France before joining Dominique in Paris, where he refined his technique under his brother’s guidance. His work, characterized by square, robust heads and impeccable workmanship, earned him recognition among elite violinists. Today his violin bows are revered for their exceptional playing qualities, combining power and flexibility for precise articulation and rich tone production. Though his life was tragically cut short at age 34, his legacy lives on through his exquisite bows, which remain highly sought after by professional musicians and collectors worldwide.
