The Maker

Gaetano Gadda began learning the trade of violin making in 1919 as the sole pupil and true follower of Stefano Scarampella. He continued making instruments even after his mentor’s passing in 1925, carrying forward Scarampella’s legacy with distinction. Some experts have praised Gadda’s workmanship as exceeding that of his teacher, a remarkable achievement given Scarampella’s own celebrated reputation.

Gadda’s continual pursuit of perfection and close attention to detail secured his place among the finest Italian violin makers of the twentieth century. His instruments remain highly regarded today for their craftsmanship and their direct connection to one of the most respected lineages in Italian violin making.
