This Gennaro Gagliano violin dates from 1780 and remains in excellent condition. It shows the maker’s personal flair and fine craftsmanship. The work carries the hallmarks of the great Naples family.

The Maker
Gennaro Gagliano, also known as Januarius, was a son of Alessandro Gagliano. He produced some of the finest instruments of the family. Some accounts even place him beside Stradivari in his early youth.
Although he did not work prolifically, his output shows fine detail and personal character. Each instrument reflects his own hand rather than a rote formula. Because of that, experts rank his violins among the finest of the family.

Certification
Rembert Wurlitzer certified this violin in 1955. Robertson & Sons added a certificate in 2007.
