The Maker
Genuzio Carletti lived from 1905 to 1996. He apprenticed with his uncle, Carlo Carletti, from a young age. So he learned the craft inside one of Italy’s violin making families.
However, he appears to have fallen out with his uncle and cousins in his early twenties. From 1936 he worked independently as a violin maker. That step gave his instruments their own identity.
Because he worked for decades, Carletti built a long body of work. Even so, his early independent years hold special interest. His long life spanned most of the twentieth century. Today, a Genuzio Carletti violin from 1941 shows him five years into that independence.

William Moennig & Sons certified this violin in 1977. Kenneth Warren & Son followed with a certificate in 1983.
