The Violin Bow
This gold-mounted violin bow by Georges Tepho combines power and agility. Tepho crafted the round stick from choice pernambuco and finished it with an ebony and faux ivory faceplate. The ebony frog features large pearl eyes and elegant gold mountings. An ebony adjuster with two gold rings and a pearl end dot completes the fittings, while a gold tinsel winding and leather thumb grip round out the bow’s design.
At 62.8 grams, the bow sits slightly heavier than average, yet it remains nimble and responsive. Its powerful playing qualities and excellent projection make it especially well suited to a soloist.
The Maker
Georges Tepho, born in 1962, is a distinguished contemporary French bow maker. He trained at the renowned Mirecourt School of Violin and Bow Making, where he studied under Bernard Ouchard and Roger Lotte. Tepho later established his own workshop in Quimper, France. Since then, he has exhibited his work internationally in cities including Paris, Frankfurt, and Tokyo.
Collectors and musicians admire Tepho’s bows for their refined craftsmanship, carefully selected pernambuco, and strong playing qualities. As a result, his work continues the traditions of the modern French school of bow making.
