The Maker

Giuseppe Ornati (1887–1965) is recognized as one of Milan’s leading violinmakers of the 20th century, blending classical Cremonese principles with a distinctly modern Italian style. Trained under Leandro Bisiach, he later mentored many young makers and became chief restorer at Milan’s Conservatory, where close study of historic instruments shaped his approach. His violins are admired by professional players for their clarity, projection, and meticulous workmanship, often distinguished by his deep orange-red varnish and carefully chosen materials.
