The Violin
This beautifully antiqued 2023 “Kemp” 1738 model by Huajie Hu reflects the maker’s expert craftsmanship and distinctive style. It features a two-piece maple back with medium flames descending from the center joint, paired with a medium-wide grain spruce top. The varnish is tastefully antiqued—not a strict copy of the original, but a unique interpretation with Hu’s personal flair. The tone is rich, warm, and vibrant, with a smooth response and a depth of color that shines in both ensemble and solo settings.
The Maker
Huajie Hu is a master violin maker from Gongqing, China, with over 30 years of experience crafting fine stringed instruments. He began building violins at age 16 in his father’s workshop and later studied violin making at Haerbin University. After working with the Jinfan Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing, he opened his own workshop and gained international recognition. Since relocating to Hamburg in 2000, Huajie blends traditional Chinese techniques with German precision. Mentored by Reinhard Fischer, his instruments are prized for meticulous craftsmanship and tonal balance by professional musicians worldwide.
