The Violin

This 2024 “Il Cannone” model by Huajie Hu is a beautifully antiqued take on the 1743 Guarneri, crafted with a striking one-piece maple back featuring narrow, irregular flames rising from treble to bass side. The fine spruce top has a medium to wide grain, and the golden varnish brings out the wood’s natural depth. While not a strict copy, the violin shows Hu’s own aesthetic flair. Tonally, it offers a sweet, rich sound with excellent projection, warmth, and an even, responsive feel across all four strings, perfect for both stage and studio use.

The Maker

Huajie Hu is a master violin maker from Gongqing, China, with over 30 years of experience crafting fine stringed instruments. He began building violins at age 16 in his father’s workshop and later studied violin making at Haerbin University. After working with the Jinfan Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing, he opened his own workshop and gained international recognition. Since relocating to Hamburg in 2000, Huajie blends traditional Chinese techniques with German precision. Mentored by Reinhard Fischer, his instruments are prized for meticulous craftsmanship and tonal balance by professional musicians worldwide.
