The Cello
Crafted in Los Angeles in 1972 and labeled and signed by the maker, this Ivan Zgradic cello is a beautifully built instrument with a rich, dark voice and an inviting playability that makes it ideal for the serious musician.
The cello features a two-piece maple back with wide, irregular flames descending from the center, matched by maple ribs and a tightly flamed scroll. The two-piece spruce top showcases medium-width grain and striking hazel-spruce markings, all brought together under a warm orange-brown varnish over a yellow ground.
Outfitted with ebony pegs, an Acousticus tailpiece, French bridge, and the original Weisshaar endpin and chuck, the setup reflects careful craftsmanship and attention to tone.
Tonally, this cello has a dark, resonant quality with a smooth, singing response across the register—particularly appealing to players seeking depth without sacrificing clarity. Previously owned by professional cellist Jacqueline Lustgarten, this instrument has been well cared for and remains in excellent condition.
A compelling choice for the advanced student, professional, or active chamber musician looking for an expressive and reliable partner.
