The Bow
Jules Fétique made this violin bow. It remains in excellent condition today, though it carries a later Jules Fétique frog and button rather than the originals. With a weight of 59.5 grams, this bow offers a perfect synthesis of balance and strength.
The Maker
Jules Fétique was the son of violin maker Charles Claude Fétique and brother to Victor Fétique. He served his apprenticeship under Paul Émile Miquel before joining the Bazin family and Charles Nicolas Bazin. In 1902, he joined the workshop of Eugène Sartory in Paris, remaining there until 1912, a collaboration that had a strong influence on his style. During this period, he also worked alongside his brother Victor.
In 1912, Fétique began working with Caressa et Français while maintaining his collaboration with Sartory. His talent earned significant recognition: in 1927, he received the diploma of Meilleur Ouvrier de France, and in 1937, the Diplôme d’Honneur at the International Paris Exhibition. By 1934, he left Caressa et Français and established his own workshop in Paris on Rue de Moscou.
Fétique’s bows remain highly sought after today, reflecting a career shaped by some of the most respected names in French bow making and marked by exceptional national and international recognition.
