The Gamba

A beautifully made 6-string bass gamba crafted in 1968 by a respected German luthier and former director of the Mittenwald School of Violin Making. Built in the traditional Mittenwald style, it features a flat, two-piece maple back with medium flame and a rosewood center seam, with matching maple ribs and a scroll carved with a cherub head and wings. The two-piece spruce top displays bold hazel-spruce markings and is framed by double purfling with decorative cornerwork. Rosewood fittings complement the warm Mittenwald varnish. In excellent, original condition with no restorations, this gamba offers a responsive, well-balanced voice for consort and continuo playing.
