The Violin
This beautiful Mariano Militello violin was made in Rosario in 1928, just two years after the maker was awarded a gold medal at the Rosario International Exhibition. The two-piece back is of quarter-cut maple with strong, narrow flame descending toward the center joint, complemented by finely flamed maple ribs and scroll. The two-piece spruce top has fine, even grain, and the instrument is finished in a warm orange-brown varnish over a yellow ground.
With a petite 35.0 cm back length, the violin is exceptionally comfortable and easy to play. Its tone is remarkable for an instrument of these proportions, offering surprising power, richness, and depth while retaining excellent clarity and response. Excellent condition.
