The Violin Bow

This fine French violin bow, dating from around 1925, is crafted from the highest quality dark-red pernambuco, prized for its strength and responsiveness. Silver and ebony fittings enhance its elegant, classic appearance. In very good condition, the bow plays smoothly and reliably, producing a rich, focused tone. The bow is a little heavier, which allows it to draw a full, deep sound from the violin, giving the player greater projection and presence. Its power and control make it particularly well suited for solo performance, where expressive depth is essential.

The Maker

Marie Louis Piernot (1880–1959) was a French bow maker from Mirecourt admired for his elegant workmanship and distinctive style. Trained under Charles Nicolas Bazin and later linked with Cuniot-Hury, he eventually opened his own workshop. Piernot’s bows are praised for their superb balance, clean design, and responsive character, representing the best of the French tradition. His precision and tonal awareness earned him lasting esteem among musicians and collectors.
