The Maker

Maurice Bourguignon was born in 1885 in Mattaincourt, a city just south of Mirecourt, France. He began his apprenticeship under Thibouville at the young age of thirteen, later going on to work for G. Mougenot in Brussels.

In 1910, Bourguignon acquired his master’s business, marking the start of his independent career. He went on to win several diplomas and medals at various European exhibitions, cementing his reputation as a skilled and respected bow maker.

Bourguignon’s bows remain valued today among collectors and performing musicians for their strong, evenly balanced construction and the craftsmanship built on his early training in the heart of the French bow making tradition.
