The Maker
Nestor Dominique Audinot (1842–1920) was a distinguished French violin maker from Mirecourt, trained in the great Parisian tradition. After apprenticing in Mirecourt, he moved to Paris around 1863 to work for Sébastien Vuillaume, later opening his own shop in 1868. When Sébastien died in 1875, Audinot took over the Vuillaume workshop at 17 Boulevard Bonne-Nouvelle, maintaining its high reputation and clientele. His instruments are admired for their refined craftsmanship, elegant modeling inspired by Stradivari and Guarneri, and rich, resonant tone. Audinot retired in 1908, passing the shop to his colleague Eugène Corvisier.
