The Violin
This exquisite 19th-century French violin showcases a one-piece “pillow” flamed maple back and follows a classic Stradivari pattern. Its tone is dark, woody, and richly resonant, offering both power and clarity, making it ideal for orchestral performance while blending beautifully in chamber and quartet settings. Representing the fine craftsmanship of early Nancy makers, the instrument combines elegant aesthetics with superb tonal quality. Its focused projection and nuanced voice make it a rewarding instrument for expressive solo playing as well as ensemble work.
The Maker
Pierre Charles Jacquot (1828–1900) was a leading French violin maker from Nancy, born into a renowned family of luthiers. Son of Charles Jacquot and nephew of J. B. Vuillaume, he carried on his father’s workshop and earned numerous international awards, including the Légion d’honneur in 1892. His instruments, often modeled on Stradivari and Guarneri, are admired for their refined craftsmanship and tonal quality. Later, his sons Étienne and Jules joined him, and the firm became Ch. Jacquot et Fils.
