Description: Stefano Scarampella was born in Brescia in 1843 into a family of craftsmen. He began working as a carpenter, but later devoted himself to violin making around 1890. Most of his instruments were made between the years 1902 and 1915. Stefano took on Gaetano Gadda as his apprentice, who ended up being his only student. Much like his brother Giuseppe, Stefano’s violins are commonly based on the Guarneri model, but he also made some after Stradivari and Balestrieri.
