The Violin

This fine Stradiavrius-model violin is a stunning example of modern American violinmaking, built with a clear focus on beauty, playability and sound. This instrument is tastefully antiqued, featuring a warm reddish varnish over a golden ground that gives the instrument an inviting, natural look. The two-piece maple back features attractive flame, and is paired with matching maple ribs.

Tonally, this violin possesses a rich, open voice offering the violinist of any level both projection and balance. It speaks easily under the bow and responds well across the entire register, making it comfortable to play while offering the power and clarity needed for the professional solo, chamber, or orchestral violinist.

The Maker

Stephen Sherman was raised in Wildwood, Missouri, where he began playing classical violin at age five. A passion for woodworking developed in high school led him to violin making as a way to unite music and craft. He graduated from the Violin Making School of America in 2014, studying under Charles Woolfe and Sanghoon Lee. From 2015 to 2025, he worked full time at Feng Jiang Violins, refining his approach to new making. Stephen has also participated in the Oberlin Violin Makers Workshop and now makes professional violins in Los Angeles, California.
