The Violin
Thomas Perry made this violin circa 1813. It has been excellently preserved and produces the wonderful dark tone one expects from an Irish fiddle. The violin has a back length of 35.4 cm.
The Maker
Thomas Perry was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1744, the son of violin maker Thomas Pierrie. While much speculation surrounds the details of his training, it is known that Perry established his shop at No. 6 Anglesea Street in 1778.
Known by some as the “Irish Stradivarius,” Perry’s instruments were soon played across parts of Ireland and much of Western Europe. His violins remain highly regarded today, valued for their distinctive dark tone and their significance within the Irish violin making tradition.
