The Maker

William Salchow was one of the most influential American bow makers of the 20th century and is often regarded as the dean of modern American bow making. Working in New York City, he devoted his career to the study and refinement of classical French models, particularly those of the great 19th-century masters. His bows are admired for their elegant craftsmanship, consistent balance, and reliable playing qualities. Through both his work and his teaching, Salchow helped shape generations of American bow makers and elevated the international reputation of the American school.
