Description: Johannes (Hans) Nebel was born in Mittenwald, Germany in 1892. Studied making at the school there and graduated in 1906. Worked for Johann Stubinger in Vienna and Eugene Gaetner in Stuttgart. Moved to the United States in 1922 and worked for Rudolf Wurlitzer in Ohio and New York. Established his own workshop in Philadelphia in 1926. Returned to Mittenwald in 1937 and continued to make instruments there. Died in 1979. This particular viola is 17” (43.2 cm.) with a string length of 14 7/8” (37.8 cm.). The viola is in near mint condition. As you would expect with an instrument of this size, the sound is fantastic. Big and rich, with great power and projection.
