Violinist Clayton Haslop
Violin
Violinist Clayton Haslop joined the professional world of music as a teenager when Sir Neville Marriner invited him to join the first violin section of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Less than two years later he performed as soloist under Marriner’s baton in critically acclaimed concerts that established him as one of the leading violinists to emerge from Los Angeles. Haslop has traveled internationally as a soloist and as a member of several ensembles including the Los Angeles Piano Quartet, the New Hollywood String Quartet, and the Haslop/Sanders Duo. He has served as Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Music Center Opera, Dallas Opera, Santa Barbara Symphony, and several festival orchestras, including the Oscars — most notably the 2009 Academy Awards. Living in Los Angeles for most of his career, Clayton has performed on over 1,000 motion picture titles and has served as Concertmaster for James Horner (Titanic, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13), Michael Giacchino (Ratatouille, Up, The Incredibles, Lost), Alexander Desplat (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), and Don Davis (The Matrix, Jurassic Park III), among others. While a student, he spent three years coaching with the great violinist Nathan Milstein, and also studied with Eudice Shapiro and George Kast at the University of Southern California as a Heifetz and Percy Faith Scholarship student.
